Information for Faculty
Faculty can be wonderful advocates for studying abroad! Sharing your own international experiences and being enthusiastic can make the difference in whether or not a student chooses to study abroad.
Advise students to plan as far ahead as possible for study abroad.
Students in any major can study abroad. Even though it may be difficult for students in certain majors to study abroad for an entire semester, there are many options for short term programs over the summer or winter break.
Students must get approval for each course they hope to take abroad, plus several alternate courses, before they depart. If a course is fulfilling a requirement, the student must complete an Outside Course Request form and obtain a signature from the appropriate department chairperson. Students are advise to get a course description or syllabus ahead of time so the chairperson can make an informed decision. Students must get a grade of C- or above for the course to transfer, and it will not count towards a student's GPA.
Students are required to get a recommendation as part of their study abroad application. Once the student enters the faculty member's email address, a questionnaire will be sent. Faculty members are asked to answer questions about the students academic and maturity level, and how prepared they are for a study abroad experience.
